Are you supposed to remove the thin layer of plastic from the light strip before use?
Yes, peel off the protective film before use.
Does this plant grow light work great with fruits?
It suits most potted plants, flowers, fruits, herbs and indoor plants, including hydroponics. It uses red and blue LEDs rather than UV, and has 9 brightness levels so you can match it to what you grow.
How long is the power cord?
The cord is around 20 cm (8 in).
How do I get this to work on a timed outlet? I need 12h/12h.
Use the built-in timer: the 12 hour mode turns the light on for 12 hours and off for 12, repeating each day. You can also leave the light on and plug the adaptor into a separate outlet timer.
Is it good for starting vegetable seeds?
Yes, it works well for starting vegetable seeds, and for herbs and fruiting plants.
What is the distance between the clamp and where it starts to bend?
The gooseneck bends from the base, right at the clamp.
Will this light hurt my furniture?
The clip has a thick EVA pad that protects the surface you clamp it to, and the light itself will not affect furniture.
Will it increase my electric bill?
It is rated at 40 W, so the running cost depends on your electricity rate and how many hours a day you run it.
What is the gooseneck length?
The gooseneck section is 280 mm (11 in) and the light sections are 250 mm (10 in) and 220 mm (8.5 in); the connectors make it slightly longer.
How many LEDs does it have?
80 LEDs altogether: each of the two heads has 40, 26 red and 14 blue.
What do the red and blue lights do?
Plants use blue light mainly for leafy growth and red light for germination, flowering and photosynthesis. You can run either colour or both.
How do I change the brightness?
Press the dimming button on the controller to step through the 9 levels, from 20 to 100 percent.
What do the timer modes do?
Choose 3, 9 or 12 hours. The light switches on for that many hours from when you set it and repeats at the same time each day.
How far above my plants should I place it?
Start a short distance above the plants, then adjust. Move it closer if seedlings stretch, and further away if leaves look scorched.
Can I use it with the 11 cup hydroponic kit?
Yes, it clamps onto the side of a box or a nearby shelf and suits the 11 cup deep water culture kit and the hydroponic planter.
Is it bright enough for a large NFT system?
It is best for small setups. For our 36 or 108 cup kits, the LED grow light strips cover more area.
Does it get hot?
LEDs run cooler than older lamp types, but let the heads cool before you touch them and keep leaves from resting against them.
Can I use it for houseplants?
Yes, it works for houseplants and succulents that need extra light indoors.
What if the timer does not seem to switch at the right time?
The timer counts from the moment you set it, so set it at the time of day you want the light to come on.
Is a plug adaptor included?
